Art That Sparks Joy

I work in acrylic and mixed media to create paintings that capture the rhythms and beauty of the natural world. My inspiration for my work is my home gardens and the surrounding woods of my semi-rural Missouri home. My process is intuitive, allowing the materials to guide me toward unexpected compositions. I like to begin with a series of random paint swipes, drips or pours and a few directional lines. Often I am reminded of natural images like wind-blown grasses or the dance of color and light on a swaying branch. The structure of the piece reveals itself as I lay down additional colors, lines, and juxtaposing forms. Themes of impermanence, resiliency, and the poetry in the natural world are what guide my work as an artist.
